It has actually been a long period of time given that I cooked anything with barley in it. Active Ingredients
- 1-1/2 pounds beef stew meat
- 1 tablespoon canola oil-for browning the stew meat
- 1 (145 ounce can) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup sliced onions
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 cup sliced fresh carrots
- cup chopped green pepper
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2/3 cup medium pearl barley
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1-1/2 teaspoons dried basil
- teaspoon black pepper
Directions
- In a large frying pan brown the stew meat.
- Combine all ingredients in a 5 quart slow cooker, cover and cook on low for 9-10 hours.
