Skillet Ground Beef and Biscuits

Comfort food is always best when fall and cooler temperatures arrive. Quick and easy meals that require little effort are also a big plus. I have shared quite a few simple ground beef dinner recipes like Simple Salisbury Steak, Homemade Hamburger Helper, and American Goulash. My recipe for Skillet Ground Beef and Biscuits is one of my other favorite meals to make for busy weeknights.

I find this Skillet Ground Beef and Biscuits to be very similar to a Beef Pot Pie. But, with this recipe, there is no need to make a pie crust or wait for a tough piece of meat to slow cook. This no-fuss dinner is both filling and delicious. My family devours it, and there are never leftovers.

Ground Beef recipes are great for feeding a large family. It is both inexpensive and versatile for making easy dinners. For Ground Beef and Biscuits, I use frozen potatoes O’Brien, frozen mixed vegetables, packet gravy, and store-bought Pillsbury biscuits to keep the meal simple. I have been tempted to use fresh homemade ingredients, but I like the simplicity of this version.

When making this dish, you will use just one skillet and one bowl. Less mess and one pan to clean after dinner is a plus. Serve it alone or consider offering a side of salad.

I did not add onion when making this time. I was keeping it kid-friendly version. Normally I will dice about half an onion. Feel free to make this recipe with or without onion. The onion does add a little bit more flavor.

Ingredients to Make Skillet Ground Beef and Biscuits

  • Ground Beef
  • Potatoes O’Brien
  • Garlic
  • Brown Gravy Packets
  • Frozen Peas and Carrots
  • Biscuits

How to Make Skillet Ground Beef and Biscuits

Start by browning the meat in a large oven-safe skillet until there is no pink. Then, drain off the grease. I used my favorite Kroger Simple Truth brand of lean organic ground beef. If you would like extra flavor, add in some diced onion.

In a small bowl or large measuring cup, mix the gravy packet with water according to the package directions. I like to whisk until there are no lumps visible.  Then, add the potatoes, veggies, garlic, and gravy to the skillet.

Next, you will let the mixture cook uncovered for about 10 minutes. I do stir mine occasionally.

I use store-bought Grand Flakey Biscuits for this dish. After cutting them in fours, I arrange them evenly on top before baking in the oven for approximately 20 minutes.

I bake until biscuits are a golden brown.
