Crock Pot Baked Potatoes

The easiest way to make perfect baked potatoes is in the crock pot! These Crock Pot Baked Potatoes are truly a set it and forget it recipe, leaving precious space in your oven to bake other recipes you’re making.

Serve these baked potatoes with a sous vide steak, pork tenderloin or a vegetarian black bean burger. Enjoy!

The Easiest Way to Bake Taters

The crock pot is such a great place to cook baked potatoes! Especially if you have your oven filled with other delicious recipes you’re whipping up at the same time. Follow these simple steps to guaranteed baked potato goodness:

Step 1: Prep Taters

  • Prep the taters by running them under warm water, using your fingers or a veggie brush to remove any dirt or residue.
  • Then, pat dry with a kitchen towel or paper towel.
  • Use a fork to pierce potatoes on all sides around 8-10 times per potato.
  • Next, rub each potato with olive oil, and generously season the outside of each potato with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Place in Crock Pot

  • Place potatoes on the bottom of your crock pot, and then place the lid on top. Seriously, that’s it.

Step 3: Cook on High

  • Turn your crock pot to high, and let your potatoes cook on high for anywhere from 4-6 hours.
  • Cook time will vary depending on the size of your potatoes.
  • Rule of thumb: You know your potatoes are done cooking when they are easily pierced with a fork, but still firm on the outside. If the flesh is still hard on the inside, cook those taters a little longer.

Step 4: Enjoy!

  • Let baked potatoes cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and topping with your favorite tater toppings (we’ve got some recos below!).
  • Serve as a side dish or as a loaded baked potato for your main dish.

What Types of Potatoes Can I Use?

Technically you can use any kind of potato with this crock pot method. But do note that size matters when it comes to bake time. The bigger the potato, the longer you’ll have to cook it. Here are some other potato options you can try:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Yams
  • Yukon gold potatoes
  • Red potatoes
  • Fingerling potatoes

Toppings for Baked Potatoes

There’s nothing better than topping your perfectly cooked baked potatoes with all your favorite toppings. Whether you’re putting together a full baked potato bar, or just using your baked tater as a side dish, we recommend any (or a combination!) of the following toppings:

  • Sour cream (or Greek yogurt!) and chives
  • Bacon bits
  • BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese
  • Salsa
  • Leftover chili
  • Butter, salt and pepper
  • Vegan queso
